We have a specialist Prison Law Team whose members are dedicated to prisoners and their rights. We understand that at times being in prison is difficult and you may need further advice and assistance whilst serving a sentence.

The Prison Law Team are here to ensure that your legal rights are protected, we are dedicated to working with you and appropriate agencies in order to ensure that any problems you may encounter whilst in prison are dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I am a Crown Court Caseworker at John Black Solicitors and have been with the firm for the past five years. My role at the company includes preparing cases that are before the Crown Court, this may be for Sentence or for Trial and I do this alongside Defence Counsel.
I particularly enjoy the investigative work that comes with this role whether it be tracing witnesses that will help our clients defence and obtaining a witness statement from them, or looking at the case against our client to find any flaws in the evidence that the Crown have. It is a position that i thoroughly enjoy and I prepare each individual case to a high standard.

I am part of the Prison Law Team and can assist clients when they are faced with an issue in custody. This may be that they have been refused a Category D Status and need assistance in appealing this decision or they could be serving an indeterminate sentence and their case has been listed before the Parole Board for review and our client wishes us to represent them at that Hearing. Our clients are faced with a wide range of issues within prisons and we are eager to assist them to ensure that any problems that they have are resolved as soon as possible and that their legal rights are protected at all times.

 I also attend at the Magistrates Court to represent our client's interest in relation to when their case is being sent to the Crown Court either by election or a direction and their case has been listed for a Committal Hearing to take place.

I am at present undertaking a law degree and I am going into my final year of study. Once i have completed this, I intend to complete the Legal Practice Course and the area that i wish to practice in will be Criminal Law however, I will also continue to be a member of the Prison Law Team.
